On Saturday 17 October, I was out and about as roving reporter for Wellington MS at Spring into Tawa, joining the Tawa community for a fantastic day of stalls, food, entertainment and community spirit.

I was fortunate to be there and be a part of the hustle and bustle. I’d wanted to go into Spring into Tawa for years but this time had finally gathered my courage in the classic Wellington cold, put on my warmest coat, and made my way over from Lower Hutt. I walked for what seemed like quite a while due to the huge number of stalls and finally spotted the familiar MS sign and then the brilliant Cosplayers and Gotham police car.

Throughout the day, I collected donations for Wellington MS and had the chance to talk with a some great people from a wide-range of backgrounds, some of whom came to speak to us about loved ones they know with MS. It was wonderful to see how interested people were, and how many children wanted photos with Spiderman (unusually and luckily, we had three Spidermen!) Before wrapping up I met my husband and we walked around to see everything all the stalls had to offer and brought beautiful black oat soap and excitedly sipped on two cups of Indian Chai.

Every donation gathered makes a difference and it was lovely seeing children make their way over and make a donation. Every donation goes a long way and helps Wellington MS continue to provide support to people living with MS and their whānau. I know first-hand the fantastic services offered, with mum having had MS for over twenty years now.

Events like Spring into Tawa are also a great reminder of the importance of community. A big thank you to everyone who stopped to have a chat, made a donation or simply took the time to find out more about Wellington MS. Your support makes a world of difference. Special thanks to the organisers, volunteers, and everyone who came along.

I look forward to being a part of it again in the future!
